Rabbi Weiss and four other members of his group, Neturei Karta, received a warm reception in Iran, he said, dining with state officials and posing for photographs with Mr. Ahmadinejad, whom Rabbi Weiss had met at least twice before.Hopefully, they've finally gone far enough to ostracize themselves from the community entirely.
Back home, Rabbi Weiss and the others were met with anger and scorn. Since their return, they have been ostracized by synagogues, denied service at kosher stores and vilified in Jewish discussion boards on the Web. Posters have surfaced in the Satmar Hasidic enclaves of Brooklyn, calling the members of Neturei Karta “rebels” and “outcasts” and asking Orthodox Jews to “totally cut off ties with this gang.”

NYT on Neturei Karta
The NY Times on the Neturei Karta members who took that recent infamous trip to take part in Iran's conference on Holocaust denial.
Here in Israel, people are worried that they might try to come here- and are hoping that the government won't let them in. I certainly hope they're denied entry!
ReplyDeleteAccording to a recent Jpost article on them, they seem to live in relative security in Meah Shearim. Why is this? Until the haredi community literally throws them out on their literal and proverbial collective a***es, these little announcements really don't matter much. Would the haredi community tolerate conservative or reform Jews living in their neighborhoods? Not likely. Yet these scum are allowed to live relatively unharrassed right here in J-m. Despicable.
ReplyDeleteSatmar may be denouncing this human trash now, but where were they for the last thirty years?
ReplyDeleteSatmar created the Neturei Karta monster. After shrugging them away since their inception, Satmar is only reacting now because every single Satmar chossid, as long as they dress like their chassidim who went to Iran, will viewed as complicit in this disgrace.
Too bad they already are.
Just saw this on my e-mail:
ReplyDeleteNow that our local supermarkets are kosher,
is our Mikvah kosher?
Ladies:
when you go to the Mikvah . . .
. . . does the attendant actually help you?
. . . does she have the tools and direction necessary to help you?
. . . when a halachic question arises, does she call a rav?
If you cannot answer these questions with confidence, then ask them of your local rabbi!

I wonder how they got Kosher meals for their state dinners with Iranian leaders.
ReplyDeleteThere is a Jewish community in Iran - perhaps they got kosher meals from them?
ReplyDeleteI got a call from one of those automatic dialers from the neturai karta asking me to call some phone number to hear about all the wonderful things that they do.

It's simple. They are not Jews. Not members of the tribe! I don't give a flying fig if there mother wore a double fake hair sthipzle. You can't include them in a minyan. They have the same status as the Black Jews in Dimona. They make me want to vomit!
ReplyDeleteyou all are missing the point, they are our reality check. it keeps us vigilant and on our toes.
ReplyDeleteI received the automatic dialer phone call too -- I was completely disgusted by it -- I wonder who is selling our numbers to them!
ReplyDeleteThe Haredi may not want to recognize NK as part of the Jewish community, but big deal, they don't accept the 95% of Jews who are secular either.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't rely on the Times to report on anything accurately, even on one of its favorite topics - bashing Jews.
