iPod Envy

I must admit to being really pissed off. I finally got myself an iPod, and I went for the real deal. 60 GB of memory (15,000 songs, 25, 000 photos), full color LCD, the works.

Imagine my chagrin at the news of the release of the iPod nano. Same features as the original, but fantastically thin. And I'm 31 days after purchase of the iPod. So I can't exchange it for the nano.

I understand that when you buy electronics, you run the risk of their becoming obsolete. But I expected to eke more than 31 days out of my purchase before walking around with my iPod made me look hopelessly behind on the iPod times.

Anyone else harboring similar resentment toward Apple?

The Nano is only a max 4 gigabytes, you've got 56 more than it...they're really for different purposes. A regular Ipod is more for storing your whole collection in one place while the Nano's and Mini's are more for a "load up your player with a bunch of songs you like to listen to for a week or two than change them".

i'm still trying to convince myself that my shuffle is all i need. i really have screen envy. i'd take a mini and be perfectly happy (no, not really, bc i know i'd have nano envy, but..) and the nano.. even my husband said, wow, that's nice.

i don't need more than the shuffle, but a screen would be nice as i try to listen to shiurim and it would be nice to see what i was listening to instead of having to listen to the first 10-30 seconds ...

(nb: my birthday is coming up. last year i got engaged..)

i'm not mad at apple .. i just know that once i break down and get a 12" ibook to schlep around (i have a 15" powerbook), they'll come out with a new newton as a tablet or something.

Yeah, but the truth is, I will NEVER use all 60 GB.

Peninah:
I think the mini is being discontinued and the nano is the replacement.

Owning any Apple product means you are a prisoner of Apple Envy. I love my i-mac, but now I want a G-5 PowerMac, or one of those really thin 17-inch PowerBooks.

I have the 20GB which holds up to 5k songs. Thus far I only have 2700 or so on there. I love it.

nano is the mini replacement. what i meant was that i'd take an "older, discontinued" model, hoping it'd be cheaper, until i realized i would no longer have screen-envy (which is understandable, and some-what reasonable), but now it escalated into nano-envy, which the acceptability of which is murkier. while form factor and flash drive are quite desirable, do i really need a screen, in colour? Especially since my shuffle is only about 6 months old...

*sigh*

all that coming from a gadget geek? aah, life in the real world broke me of my habit quickly. though i should replace my cell phone (sony t610) soon.. it's acting up waay too much for my patience.

as for apple envy- yeah, you always want what you don't have. i'm still saving to upgrade to Tiger. that i still haven't properly saved is the most pathetic part. but again, is it absolutely necessary? for me?

don't get me wrong i do too, i'm just trying not to get my hopes up and then crash in disappointment on 01 Nov when no nano materializes. there are other things i need more. i wanna be a kid again and get presents of toys! ;) [and socks. i need more socks, well, stockings specifically.]

I want a certain pair of boots. Can't afford them, but want them.
I want my kids to be able to do their homework without any help.
I want obnoxious clients to suddenly morph into nice guys, or volunteer a large bonus for putting up with them.

I think I have the best chance for a nano.

i'm not a mom (yet) .. of course you win. mommy's are super-duper. daughters are made of sugar and spice (though i'm convinced i'm made of something else b/c I'm not nice and sweet, though not slugs or snails or puppy dog tails (poor puppies))

i really like the idea of clients volunteering a large bonus for putting up with them. i might implement that. an obnoxious surcharge. what i really want is an idiot charge. when they act really really dumb and do something stupid and then it takes me hours and hours to fix it (especially when it's erev shabbos or yom tov, triple if they call me motzei). arg!

Can't get into what I do, but I DO charge a surcharge for calls after 7 PM and on weekends. It's in my contract so there are no misunderstandings.

The Nano is definitly pretty, but it's not worth the price. $250 for only 4gb?

I'll take a 20 gb player for that price, thank you.

Masterswing Golf Driving Partner
ps2 system Practice your golf swing without shattering your neighbor's window. Even tells you the distance and accuracy of your shot.

Golf is not a game, it's a way of life. Whether you are a golfer or someone close to you plays the sport, then you know what we're talking about.

That's why the MasterSwing is the perfect gift for the golfer inside of you or someone you know. In fact this particular item is in honor of my dear friend and neighbor, Jeffrey, who has set off every car alarm in the neighborhood.

Thankfully with plastic golf balls only. Unfortunately he has been relegated to practicing his ...ps2 system
