Noise Complaint
Someone is doing construction on my block. This morning, I was woken by the the sound of hammering and sawing before 7:00 AM. Anyone know what the Nassau County noise law is? If this is going to go on for a while, it is really going to affect my quality of life. Especially because the noise woke up my baby as well. So I'm taking a poll. What time does everyone here think is an acceptable time for your neighbors to start up the jackhammer in the morning?

I know ALL about this! I work from home, and my neighbors have been doing work for at least a year. It really disturbs my concentration. I have tried a white noise machine, but it doesnt work for me. Maybe it would work for your baby's room?
I know that in my area, the noise ordinance is that any construction is permissible after 7 AM. Sucks, but it sound like you might be out of luck.
Oh, I forgot to add that even though the law is 7 AM, I would think that 8 AM is fair.

I'd think 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends would be fair.
7am seems early to me and i'm an early riser!

I think in NYC the noise laws are anytime after 7 AM. But that sucks for you. Is it much before 7 AM,or around 7 AM? Besides, do you want to start filing complaints against your neighbors? I wouldn't.
I think the law says 7 AM, but I THINK an acceptable time would be 8. My neighbor's car alarm goes off almost every night at about 10 PM. Though that's not too late for me, it would bother me if I had sleeping kids at home.
I have a neighbor who is always having loud fights with his wife in his driveway, which is right outside my bedroom window. Does he not think I can hear him berating her? Hes about 20 feet away!
Is there even a law in your area? Not all locales have laws on the books regarding noise. And those that do dont really enforce them unless an egregious situation. (house party late at night, etc.)

How about gardeners? HOw early are THEY allowed to show up? I've them come as early as 7:00-and they are loud. I think that nothing should be happening outside before 8.

Any a**hole inconsiderate enough to be making noise in the early morning pre-9AM or in the late evenings should be tortured and killed in sundry ways.
Any a**hole who thinks we're just making baseless complaints doesn't understand the unnerving effects of noise pollution and how it contributes to a violent disposition should be summarily shot dead after being exposed to ear-bleed levels of loud noise for several hours.
If any of you muppets checked you'd see the noise ordinance restrictions state a restriction before 8am...too many bar stool lawyers here!!
