Omer
I'm having a really hard time keeping up with counting the Omer. At least I made it this far, I guess. Last year I don't think I made it much further than the first week. Even that poor performance was nowhere near as bad as a few years ago. That year, counting the Omer was literally a non-starter for me. I didn't even get the first night down. I guess it's just easier for men who are davening maariv with a minyan (or not) to remember, because my husband doesn't seem to be having any trouble at all.
Well, here's hoping I make it to 49!

If you check your email at night, you can have email alerts sent to your inbox (via ou.org or torah.org etc) and if you don't you might try setting an alarm on your cellphone sometime after the zman or having a text message sent to it at a time of your choosing via sefirathaomer.com (it costs $10 but $7 goes directly to Zichron Menachem so you're really doing to mitzvos at once!).
But, of course, davening with a minyan is always the ideal way.
I ALSo find it very hard to keep up with the counting. Maybe it's about being a mom of small kids that makes it so difficult. I guess that it why we women arent obligated in mitzvot that have a time constraint!
Thanks for reminding me about those, Michael. Actually, OrthoDad has been doing a great job of reminding me so far, but hopefully he won't forget. (And he's free.) Unfortunately, davening maariv with a minyan isn't happening for those of us moms with four kids at home. As Miri said, I guess that's why were not obligated.
Tonight, the evening of Monday, May 9, will be day 16, which is 2 weeks and 2 days of the omer.
Isn't tonight Tuesday?
I need to look up the halacha if you KNOW you're not gonna make it, do you even start with the bracha. I think that this year I lost it in less that a week. Last year I came close, but lost it a week and a half before Shavuos. I suck.
SW, so much for relying on YOU for the correct reminders!
JP: I don't KNOW I'm not gonna make it, I just have a bad track record.
I know that I have never made it, but I also know that every year could be the year.
Except for two years ago, when my nap went really late and I slept through maariv on the second night of Pesach and did not count 1.
Damn that yellow and orange hagadah for not putting a sefirah reminder after the goat song.
That is exactly what happened to me a few years ago. I was completely exhausted, the wine didn't help, and I passed out before the end of the seder, thus losing the race before even getting out of the starting blocks.
I was never wuite THAT bad, but I HAVE lost it before the end of Pesach. I think its worse to almost make it and then lose it right at the end.
I have a feeling that's in the cards for me this year. We'll see.
