Open Season on Orthodox

I was shocked to return from vacation to read that a candidate running for the local school board had suggested hunting down members of my community who did not vote his way. To give a little background, the past few years, my neighborhood has seen an increased involvement by the ever-growing Orthodox community in local government. The local school district has seen school taxes increase while the enrollment in the Public Schools has been going in the opposite direction. This has led many members of the community to question the expectation that the voters will automatically vote to approve the ever-increasing budget. The "establishment" has been outraged at the Orthodox community's temerity in opposing higher taxes, and have therefore portrayed the Orthodox as the enemies of Public Education.

Apparently, the bitterness has evolved to the extent that when a candidate in this year's school board election, Stanley Kopilow, was asked what his plans were if the budget were to get voted down again in the upcoming election, he answered: "Aside from taking a shotgun to a certain group?" Apparently, the Orthodox hunting season has begun. What is truly amazing to me is that there was a reporter from the local paper present when the comment was made in a public forum and he declined to publish the comments. Had this comment been made about any other minority group, such as blacks or latinos, the outrage would have reached far and wide. Instead, this man, who is Vice-President of the local Reform Temple Israel, can make an inflammatory comment such as this about Orthodox Jews at a candidate's night at the local public school, and the only reaction from those present was, from all accounts, laughter.

Sick stuff.

Where is that moron of a Rabbi they have at Temple israel- Jay Rosenbaum? he flies all over the world talking about anti-semitism and does not even realize that he has a bigot in his own house. If Kopilow had "joked" about killing some blacks the NAACP would be all over this in a second. Where are the Jewish "defense" organizations these days? I guess that they are not bothered about hatred of the Orthodox.

heard about this one over the weekend. I think that Lawrence could use some long bearded and black coated fellows to travel down there to get the natives really angry.

You've got an interesting blog here, how'd you find mine?

BTW: The petition was taken down today because the original author neglected to post his/her full name, in violation of petitiononline.com's rules of now allowing anonymous petitions.

When is the vote anyway?

Isaac-are you the one about whom "the natives" protested in the streets of Williamsburg (about affordable hosuing etc) last June? Do you own the (in)famous building in Williamsburg?

Michael: the vote is on May 17th. I found your blog when I googled Stanley Kopilow. The whole thing is really outrageous, but I don't really think the petition would have done much anyhow.

C'mon already! Do you really think that if Mr. Kopilows supposed statement actually happened the reporters would not have jumped all over it!

I attended 'meet the candidates night'. I would like to clear the air and set the record straight. Mr. Kopilow was asked 'what would you do if the budget failed?'. He paused and said 'I'm going to get a shot gun and shoot everybody'. Everyone in the audience laughed. Although it may have been poor taste, he was 100% joking and was not referring to any side of the community. I think it is really sad and pathetic that someone in that audience took that comment as being serious and directed towards Orthodox people.

Dr. Sussman is a liar and can not be trusted. I can not understand why the Orthodox community endorsed Sussman last year. He was Board President at the time when an $18 million surplus was illegally spent down.

That is not what was said. I found out what really happened and this situation has been totally blown out of control.

Never did this man state killing anyone.

Read the Nassau Herald, Zippy. Whether you feel that the situation was blown out of proportion or not, Kopilow ADMITTED to making the comment about taking a shotgun out. The dispute is over whether he said "to a group" or to "someone". You make your own judgements as to the consequences, but the comment was clearly made by Mr. Kopilow.

The Tax Return Crack-Up<3>
Granted, there are usuallyMicrosoft Office 2010write-ups when presidential contenders make their tax returns available, but the coverage falls far short of the Office 2010
full court press (pardon the pun) that the Clintons have received. What's Microsoft Office 2007different now?Office 2007One possibility is that most upper middle class Democrats, and therefore most Microsoft OfficeOffice 2007 keyeditors and reporters of our nation's big papers as well as Office 2007 downloadtelevision producers, are Obama supporters who think that Hillary should hurry up Office 2007 Professionaland drop out of the race already.Microsoft outlook
Microsoft outlook 2010Whom elite liberals are pulling for really does shape political coverage in ways
