Shocker
Might I suggest trying to avoid stepping on metal plates while walking in the street?
And Con Ed's explanation for not finding the source of the current is not exactly reassuring:
A 30-year-old man was jolted by an electrical shock as he walked past a Tribeca cafe last night, and Con Edison is investigating whether stray voltage was to blame once again.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to NYU Downtown Hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
A metal cable box outside the WOW Cafe on Broadway and White St. appeared to be the culprit. Con Ed tested it and found no stray voltage, but said it could have dissipated.
And Con Ed's explanation for not finding the source of the current is not exactly reassuring:
"Could the current be there one moment and not the next?" asked Joe Petta, a spokesman for the utility. "That's a possibility."Lovely.

scary. Do you think rubber-soled shoes can prevent shocks, like rubber tires work for cars.
Sure. And I heard scuba suits work great in lightening storms.
This has been going on all winter:

These plates are pretty much everywhere in the city, and nearly impossible to avoid.
wow- I thought they had addressed this problem. There was a real scandal about this a few years ago when someone else either died or went into critical condition from a heart attack. I guess that's what the "once again" is about.
I also remember there were always posters up warning people to watch their dogs, both from the plates in the streets and loose (or open) plates on the bases of lampposts.
Put your feet into a dried out Chulent pot (on Motzei Shabbos).
It gives your feet a special coating that will prevent this from happening.
