New Comment Policy
Effective immediately, all comments that denigrate myself or other commenters on this blog for no apparent reason wil be deleted. In the close to a year that I've been blogging, I have never deleted a comment because the commenter was rude to me. And I am loath to begin deleting comments at all. But when people are so interesting in seeing their own rudeness in print that they start attacking my commenters, they leave me no choice.
Apparently, a bunch of toddlers has decided to come around, and they don't know how to play well with others. I welcome commenters that have things to say that are sustantive and on topic - and I've always even given a little leeway to such commenters to throw some jabs in here or there to help make a point. But that is not what this particular group of trolls came here to do. They came here simply to ruin someone else's blog, and revel amongst themselves in their own "witty" repartee. They would be better served in creating their own sandbox for themselves to pee in.
I wish them all the luck in doing so.

Bravo.
Frankly, I think you should have pulled the plug on their fun a few days ago.
Great policy! Keep up the good blogging Orthomom!
Good for you. The sad part was the way they were convinced that people were really interested in following their inane trains of thought.

It's such a shame when people play 'human bowling'- knocking down other people for points!
Keep up the FABULOUS blog, you genius woman!!!!
I am surprised that you have not followed up your story about the LTA protested in front of Dr. Masdorfs office with a story about the how the LTA protested in front of Pam Greenbaum's house thursday and friday.
Why has there been no coverage??

Well, I have no idea where Pan Greenbaum lives, and had not heard about this from anyone. So that would be a good reason it hasn't been covered. Feel free to e-mail me any pictures and first-hand reports. I would be happy to post regarding this. As I've stated before, I don't think personal residences belonging to board members is fair territory for protesting. I would be happy to reiterate that if I get some information about the protests.
Thanks for your support and all your kind words, everyone.
Oh, take a Pamprin!
I know, grow a thick skin so the Internet meanies don't get to you.
Wow, looks like I missed a lot (not that I'm sorry, I hate meanie commentors) sounds like you've got everything under control as usual.
Keep up the good blogging!
Thank you.
Now, I'm less of a "Bored Blogger in the Five Towns."
thank you, Orthomom.
Under the guise of "constructive criticism", Orthomom has been putting up posts which denigrate the five towns, its institutions, rabbinic leaders, and denizens for quite some time, which only served to create sinas chinam, bad publicity for the 5T and more loshon hora. Who is she kidding? To anyone who has read her previous posts, she is not only arrogant and holier-than-thou, but a whiner with a huge chip on her shoulder and tremendous animosity toward those with more money than she has. It's about time someone exposes her for what she truly is.
Thats ridiculous. OM discusses issues that are of interest to many readers. If you don't like her blog, don't read it. There are plenty who do enjoy, and that's why this is such a popular blog. If you call what she does "denigrating" of leaders and institutions, you have reading comprehension problems. And BTW, I never saw her express animosity toward those with more money than she has, just well-earned criticism toward those who spend exorbitant amounts to keep up with the Joneses. I actually have no idea whether OM has less money than me. I don't sense a chip on her shoulder at all. And the only really bad publicity I've seen for the Five Towns are the rude commenters who seem to be from here. I didn't need OM to tell me that people in the Five Towns like materialism. You want a blog that tells everyone how great the Five Towns is? Try starting one.
i totally agree with "so wrong." there's a lot to be understood from nuance. OM is typically ahead of the curve in identifying issues that
a) matter to the residents of the five towns, and often, by extension, jews everywhere else
b) always has something to say, which at the very least will make you think, if not learn more about a subject.
Contrast that with the throng of clueless blowhards who appeared on this blog last week and OM is quite wonderful to have around.

I totatly agree. Let's be honest. Orthomom says some pretty mean stuff about people at times, and when people complain, does she listen, no, she turns and persoanlly insults them. This is why seclar jews don't like us Orthodox
See OM's post of Jan 8, 2006 - Not My Cup of Tea, and the comments that follow. (wish I knew how to link). This post bashes her neighbors and by specifically denigrating "black hatters", she provides the impetus and a soapbox for commenters with nasty things to say about frum Jews.
witty" repartee. They would be better served in creating their own sandbox for themselves to pee in.
Wow, the irony of this is enough to level a gorilla. Here you go on about name calling and insults, and then look at how you end. Are you to pot of the kettel?
*or the kettel
Guys, enjoy the OM bashing all you want, but my readers should know that all of these comments are coming from the same IP's that the "ortho" crew came from last week. For now I won't delete, I'll let you guys have your fun. I can't imagine it won't get old fast, though. Gauging from all the comments left by "real" commenters, it's gotten old for everyone else quite a while back.
pee in, group of trolls, and they don't know how to play well with others
Please set an example OM, arn't you frum Jews suppossed to be all like "proper speach" and "Love your fellow Jew". Thank goodness im not one you you black hatters. You can't even get along with each other.
Oh for heaven's sake! If you don't like this blog, you know where the door is. No one is forced to be here reading it. Don't like the way OM deals with issues, criticizes the 5T, responds to comments? I have the perfect solution- go away! Then you'll never have to read a blessed thing she writes any more in your life.
For those who tried to destroy her blog, clearly it didn't work. Time to move on to other worthwhile causes.

nobody started out insulting her, I still like her blog in fact. I just made a comment that she needs to remember not to say things about people. Go away, no. She started this to express her feelings as she said, that gives us the right to respond. First ammendment does work that way. She can say whatever she wants, but we can respond just as much.
"Don't like the way OM deals with issues, criticizes the 5T, responds to comments? I have the perfect solution- go away!"
"Go away" doesn't work when OM comments in a broad, generalized, negative manner about matters that directly affect me (i.e., my shul, my neighborhood, etc.). If OM continues to blog this way, I support the right of the commenters to rebut OM without restrictions.
Anon, tell me. What do you think had a more negative effect on the reputation of Beth Ortho:
1. OM's mildly-expressed opinions regarding its dinner (I liked the seating arrangements, wished there could have been dancing for the women, ad copy is boring, etc.), or
2. The potty-mouthed comments from the ortho crowd in response?
I do not support the orthopotty comments in every respect. They generally reflect the work of no more than a few individuals who will soon move on to bigger and better things (your blog?). OM will surely remain. However, it bears repeating, and this is the point that OM and many of the commenters miss (but which I will admit you seem to get), that OM is not blogging in a vacuum. What she says, how she says it, and her related biases that affect her blogs, have a real-world effect, often a negative one. I therefore support the orthos' strategies of holding a mirror up to OM, if not all of their tactics.

This is hogwash. As anyone following this blog knows, OM is perfectly aware that she is not blogging in a vacuum. Not too long ago she deleted an item about certain illegal and unethical business practices among many local residents. The item was in paper and in several other blogs, and arguably, was not Lashon Hara because of its publicity. OM deleted this post after feedback convinced her that she was giving a plartform for orthodox-bashing. She has taken similar steps on other occasions.
What she says, how she says it, and her related biases that affect her blogs, have a real-world effect, often a negative one.
How about often a positive one? Just this past week, Hatzalah retracted their attack ad, Larry Gordon apologized for printing it, and a local Rav decided to reverse his boycott campaign after OM put up posts advocating just such a result. You might say that those results had nothing to do with OM, but then you would be contradicting yourself.
I therefore support the orthos' strategies of holding a mirror up to OM, if not all of their tactics.
Oh please. If a motive at all, that was a secondary motive. You guys started the criticism when I asked you to leave and take your immature senses of humor with you. Look in a mirror yourselves. I suggest you start with some of the comment threads you polluted.
Maybe it will refresh your memory as to who behaved poorly here.
I am interested to learn more about the apparent "publicity exception" to Loshon Hora that you and other bloggers so frequently cite to. Any cites you care to share?

Yawn. I have been through this many times on this blog. I think I even posted on it. (Try Google). I have it on reliable sources that the actions of public figures that are already public knowledge is not considered Lashon Hara. In this case, certainly leading community Rabbis and Organizations qualify as such.
In addition, some of my longtime readers may recall my consulting a Rav in a specific instance, and being told the parameters under which I could publicize a certain occurence.
Please. You are trying to deflect the criticism of basically everyone on this blog from your silly antics. Comment on point, or kindly don't comment.
See Bava Basra 39a-b:
"Kal milsa d'mitamara bapei tlasa, les bah m'shum lishna bisha"
Anything that is said in front of three people (i.e., is publicized) is not lashon hara.
Of course, the specifics of the halacha regarding these matters are complicated, but ht ebasic principle is that something already widely known is not lashon hara.
Thank you Krum for answering the question in a forthright manner.
