Frist Flounders

I always get a kick out of stories that prove that many politicians get poorly briefed by their staffers. Bill Frist's team proved particularly adept at their job last night from reports of Frist's speech at the OU dinner. From Eve Kessler:
Bill Frist's speech was monumentally bad. He delivered it in this enervating sing-song, in remarks that showed bad staff work on top of the awful delivery. How? Frist gave full-throated praise to Ariel Sharon and Kadima, to a roomful of people who support parties to the right of Kadima and who clashed full-on with Sharon when he evacuated their friends and relatives from Gaza last year. The remarks garnered stony silence.
Sorry I missed it.

Far cry from Hillary Clinton's address at the ou dinner a short time ago.

what happened then?
Why doesn't the OU learn and brief the speechwriters or send an information packet along with the invitation?

I've met Bill Frist and he is one of the least charismatic people I've ever seen. (By way of contrast, like him or not, George Bush in person is an incredibly charismatic person, and I voted against him twice!) Frist is also a horrible speaker.

I'm not surprised he was poorly briefed. Most of official Washington, DC thinks that Ariel Sharon is right wing, not a pragmatist.

Regardless, I suspect that when Frist is the Republican candidate against Clinton, we will hear all the polemics about how we can't trust Clinton and that only Frist is a true friend of Israel.

Charlie,
Sorry to say but there's no way he'll even make it that far. Check out the polls and the drubbing he's been getting in the press of late (especially the "inside the Beltway" publications).

You'll have to be satisfied knowing that he's an awful speaker and his staff wrote an awful speech instead of having him fully maximize his appearance before a right-of-center audience.
