Men do have trouble hearing women, scientists find
Men who are accused of never listening by women now have an excuse -- women's voices are more difficult for men to listen to than other men's, a report said.
The Daily Mail, quoting findings published in the specialist magazine NeuroImage, said researchers at Sheffield university in northern England discovered startling differences in the way the brain responds to male and female sounds.
Men deciphered female voices using the auditory part of the brain that processes music, while male voices engaged a simpler mechanism, it said.
Am I still allowed to be annoyed at OrthoDad when he doesn't register a word I say? I always tell him I feel like I'm the teacher from Charlie Brown when I talk to him. Remember her? Just the sound of a trombone with no understandable words? Now I'm not sure how off that really is...

Hmm... Not sure I get this one. Music usually distracts my mind from other auditory stimuli. Accoriding to this, I should be dropping everything else when my wife talks to me. I guess further research should be directed at determining which part of the auditory brain is being utilized: the early 80s soft rock part, the mid 70s art rock part, the british invasion part, etc...
For OrthoDad, it's all elevator music when I talk.
Maybe you should communicate via fax or email.

I leave the house early in the morning and I find my husband doesn't understand a word I say before 10AM.
I often leave him notes, but sadly, I can't make him read them.

You do that too? My husband often doesn't hear me... but my 6 yr old daughter does the same thing, and I thought it was just this ability to so totally focus on what you are doing that you block everything else out.
