It Couldn't Have Happened to a Nicer Person..

I can't help feeling a bit satisfied at this news:
Ann Coulter is no stranger to controversy, but her latest adventures have several newspapers questioning whether carrying her syndicated column is worth the trouble. The Shreveport (La.) Times is currently leaving the decision of whether or not to keep Coulter up to its readers. But the first newspaper to officially drop Coulter’s column since the latest uproar began seems to be The Gazette of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she had appeared for about 14 months.

Opinion Page Editor Doug Neumann told E&P, “Our decision was made before the plagiarism allegations. It did come after the publication of [Coulter’s] book, but I would say it didn’t directly play any role on our decision.”

However, Neumann surmised that Coulter’s incendiary book may have played an “indirect” role in the final decision. “I think it was the book that began to unwind support among her readers,” Neumann explained.
“Liberals have never liked her, and we’ve always gotten complaints [from them]. But the complaints that mattered the most were from the conservative readers,” who felt that their views were being misrepresented.

It's about time conservatives admitted that she is giving them a bad name. Honestly, I think she has inched closer and closer to sounding like a true fringe lunatic. I hope that the forums she has been using to spout her nauseating views are taken away one by one.

Ah, yes. The voiceless, muzzled right wing.

I don't think so.

While its not true for all conservatives, a good number are embarrassed/fed up with her rhetoric. National Review Online dropped her column years ago.

anon 11:09 - last I checked it wasn't exactly a conservative position that cancelling someone's column was a violation of their free speech rights.

here's my comment on Coulter & plagarism at DovBear.

at the very least, what Ann Coulter did was extremely lazy and unprofessional. If she treated her appearance the same way, she'd be a slob. If she were an academic, it would be unacceptable. So what do I care if she's a lazy, unprofessional bitch?

*Yawn* Ann who? LOL...

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists, meeting in Boston this past weekend, awarded Coulter its annual Sitting Duck Award for easiest column target. The NSNC noted that it gave the prize to the columnist/author "for cheapening political discourse in America." The statement added: "We award the Lame Duck reluctantly, because we know Ms. Coulter is desperate for any kind of attention."

It is interesting to note that the same critical mind that had a smidgen of optimism about the Gaza pullout , does not have enough humility to think that she may be wrong about Ann Coulter. Instead of a wholesale attack on Ms. Coulter, why don't you isolate some of the issues that you find objectionable and state them. Or do you believe that objectionable viewpoints should be silenced. Ms. Coulter has the courage to be politically incorrect. As far as the charge of plagirism is concerned, even several liberal media sources have cleared her and said that much of the charges were nitpicking. It's ironic that liberals stay silent in the face of major plagarism charges against their ilk - such as Doris Kearns Goodwin, Stephen Ambrose and Pulitzer Prize winning historian Michael Bellisle- when they leap to her defence. Raise the issues, let's clarify them. She is correct about much of what she says - even the " Jersey four"

Newspapers refusing to publish a column is not a violation of free speech and it is not a viiolation of the First Amendment. Both apply only to the government concerning private citizens and non governemental organizations. Read the Bill of Rights again people.
